Budget 2020 unanimously rejected by opposition
Islamabad: All the major opposition parties of Pakistan on Sunday unanimously rejected Budget 2020 presented by the federal government.

The declaration of rejection also carries signatures of members of Balochistan National Party (BNP), till recently a partner in the ruling coalition.

Qaumi Watan Party, Jamaat e Islami, Jamiat Ulema Islam- Fazl have also signed the declaration along with Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Pashtoon Tahaffuz Movement and National Party- Bazinjo.

Opposition has declared that the budget has failed to address economic challenges and Prime Minister Imran Khan's government has been unable to provide relief to the general public. "Increase in fuel prices is proof that a series of mini budgets will be debuted every month," it said while stressing that the last two governments combined had not taken as much loan as this government had in its first two years.

"GDP will go into negative for the first time this year while locust attacks are feared to have cost the exchequer another Rs. 600 billion loss. The government ignored all the earnings about locusts. Rupee has fallen by 40% while exports are consistently falling. While government is constantly giving false facts and figures about deficit, inflation and joblessness are rising. Imran Khan has completely ignored steps required to fight coronavirus pandemic. He has failed to provide safety equipment to healthcare staff. The budget has ignored all recommendations by World Health Organization. PTI government has not built one hospital since it has come to power and people inflected by the virus have been left at the mercy of oxygen mafia," the declaration said.

It was also said that the budget makes it seem like CPEC is being sidelined deliberately. Construction sector is being given a free hand to pave the way for money laundering. Despite historically high inflation, pensions and salaries were not raised. The opposition was also critical of NAB, saying that it was used to silence opposing voices. Steps to ensure well being for media workers were also note taken.
