Govt bows down before IMF, agrees to further raising power tariffs
As per details garnered, government has reportedly bowed down before conditions tabled by International Monetary Fund (IMF) aimed at increasing tariffs of electricity and gas.
The federal government has also reportedly agreed to give National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) complete tariff-setting authority, free from any government’s meddling.
The government has also agreed to end electricity subsidy for all consumers apart from the one offered to small consumers.
In the industrial sector, government will offer ‘limited subsidy’ to exporters only.
Likewise, Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will be made autonomous body to ascertain the tariff of gas.
