India’s Sensex falls over 650 points ahead of Kashmir unrest
New Delhi: India’s premier index, BSE Sensex, fell by over 650 points early Monday morning, as unrest in Kashmir took its toll on the stock exchange.

Sensex shed 654 points, about 1.76 percent, to 36,464 in early trade, NSE Nifty dropped over 200 points to settle at 10, 790.

Tensions in India and the region have reached a boiling point as India plans to abrogate article 370 of its constituion, granting special status to Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

A curfew has been imposed in the valley with communications and internet completely cut off. Most journalists have been asked to leave as 38,000 additional troops are being deployed in the area.

BJP leader Amit Shah addressed the Indian parliament on Monday morning, asking that, “Not a moment be wasted before removing Article 370.”
