Birthday special: Remembering melodious ghazals of legendary Ustad Ghulam Ali Khan
Lahore: The ghazal maestro, Ustad Ghulam Ali Khan is celebrating his 79th birthday today.

Born in the village of Kaleke, Sialkot in 1940, Ghulam Ali is well known for his style and variations in singing especially the genre of ghazals.

Belonging to a family of singers, he started his career in earlier 20s and later began singing for Radio Pakistan in Lahore. His father, who was also a classical singer, trained him to use, interpret and improvise on vocal tone and modality.

Along with singing, Ghulam Ali composes music for his ghazals too.

He was introduced to Hindi cinema with his world famous ghazal Chupke Chupke Raat Din written by the poet Hasrat Mohani. This was featured in B. R. Chopra's film, Nikaah (1982) and instantly became a hit. The maestro has also shared an album with the very famous Bollywood singer Asha Bhosle.

Ghulam Ali has travelled around the world to perform and this has earned him many followers across the globe.
