Lahore: Lollywood's yesteryears superstar Sabeeha Khanum is being remembered on her birthday.

Born Mukhtar Begum, the veteran actress was born in 1935 to Ali Mahiya and Balo Begum, both theater actors. She begun her film career in 1950 with the movie 'Beli' but stardom cane four years later with the release of 'Gumnaam', which was a blockbuster hit.

In 1956 she portrayed the iconic role of Nooran in 'Dulha Bhatti', cementing her hold on the numero uno spot. A decade of hits, including Saat Lakh, Hasrat and Daaman, followed one after the other. The first golden jubilee celebrating film in Pakistan was also to her credit.

Her hit pairing with Santosh Kumar led to a romance off-screeb which cumulated in marriage.

The actress spent her last years in Virginia, USA. She suffered from multiple ailments, including hypertension and diabetes. She passed away in America at the age of 84, leaving a legacy of some of the best films of Lollywood's golden years.
