Donald Duck turns 85
Donald Duck is one of the most popular Disney characters along with his pal Mickey Mouse who is six years older. Donald has appeared in more movies and cartoons than any of the other characters, even more than Mickey Mouse.
People love Donald and he is recognized by his distinctive voice. He is a favorite among the young and old who look forward to seeing him in movies and shows as well as seeing him in the Disney parks.
Easily recognizable with his trademark outfit — a sailor's shirt and cap, along with a red bow tie, but no trousers — the clumsy duck is renowned for his fiery temper. If he's a bit of a loser, he never gives up and is devoted to his sweetheart, Daisy Duck, all while dealing with his mischievous nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louis Duck. His imperfections have certainly contributed to his popularity.
The iconic cartoon character is known by different names in other languages, including Pasko Patak in Croatian, Aku Ankka in Finnish, Anders And in Danish or Paperino in Italian.
Donald Duck was actually born on Friday, March 13, 1914 but his birthday is celebrated on June 9 every year because his first film debut was on June 9, 1934. Therefore, most people consider that to be his birthday.
In the decades since, Donald Duck has appeared in a variety of shorts, feature-length films, televisions series, comics, video games and books. He was even honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2004.
