Acting Chief Election Commissioner to take oath today
Islamabad: Justice retired Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi will take the oath as the acting chief election commissioner under Article 217 of the Constitution on Friday (today), GNN reported.

According to details, Chief Election Commissioner retired Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza retired from his post after his tenure ended yesterday.

Justice retired Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi, ECP member from Punjab, being the senior among the only two members of the incomplete commission, will take the oath as the acting CEC.

Member KPK election commission, Irshad Qaiser to take oath as Acting Chief Election Commissioner.

Oath-taking ceremony of the acting chief election commissioner will be held at 9:30 am in the Election Commission.

The parliamentary committee meeting to appoint a permanent chief commissioner will be held on December 9.

There are currently important cases being heard in the Election Commission, including cases related to PTI alleged foreign party funding, PML-N and PPP.

It is pertinent to remember, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (Retd) Sardar Raza has retired on December 06. After his retirement the election commission will become dysfunctional.

The government has already proposed three names for the post of new chief election commissioner. The government’s nominees are incumbent ECP secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad, former federal secretaries Fazal Abbas Maiken and Arif Ahmad Khan.
