Moon finally sighted; Eid on Sunday
Karachi: Ruet e Hilal committee sighted the Shawwal moon on Saturday, declaring Sunday, May 24 to be Eid ul Fitr.

After the central Ruet e Hilal committee met for over four hours, Mufti Muneeb announced in a press conference that Eid will be held on May 24. Members of Zonal offices, experts from navy joined in while members of SUPARCO were also present as advisors.

"The weather was clear over the country, we received witness accounts from different areas of Balochistan, Sindh and Rawalpindi," he said while adding that Hafiz Younis from Chamman said that 15 people observing aitekaf with him also sighted the Shawwal moon.

"The moon for Shawwal, 1441 Hijri has been spotted. Tomorrow, May 24, Sunday will be Eid all across the country," he declared.

Dismissing Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry's claim that the moon had been sighted, Mufti Muneeb said that for him, religion is important and "we are bound to practice only sharia".
