Islamabad: An accountability court has acquitted former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf along with eight other accused in the Piraghaib Rental Power reference.

According to details, a hearing was conducted in accountability court of Islamabad in which Judge Muhammad Bashir announced his verdict on applications of Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and others seeking acquittal in the Piraghaib case.

Other accused whose acquittal pleas were approved included Ismail Qureshi, Shahid Rafi, Shaukat Tareen, Tahir Basharat Cheema, Muhammad Saleem Arif, Chaudhry Abdul Qadreer, and Iqbal Ali Shah.

Last week, the court had acquitted Pervaiz Asharf in Sahiwal Rental Power Reference. As per NAB spokesperson, the decision will be challenged after receiving the copy judgment.

In 2014, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed the Piraghaib Rental Power reference accusing Raja Pervez Ashraf of misusing his powers as a minister to gain financial benefits.

Pervaiz Ashraf, on the other hand, had argued in his petition that NAB has no evidence to prove its charges of taking any financial benefits for these Rental Power Projects (RPPs).
