SC terms Qasmi’s appointment illegal
Islamabad: The Supreme Court on Thursday declared the appointment of former chairman and managing director of Pakistan Television (PTV) Atta ul Haq Qasmi, as illegal and void ab initio.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar headed three-judge bench which heard  Atta ul Haq Qasmi's appointment case.
Qasmi was appointed managing director PTV but he received salaries of both chairman and MD.
The judgment of the case was reserved by court in July this year.
Justice Umar Atta Bandial while reading the judgment stated Qasmi’s appointment against rules and regulations.
The court also held the then information and finance ministers, Pervaiz Rashid and Ishaq Dar, as well as former principal secretary to the prime minister responsible for the his appointment.
The judgment further stated that amounts of more than 190 million were spent on Qasmi in terms of salaries and perks.
The court ordered that Qasmi will pay 50% of the amount, while the former ministers will pay 20% each and the former principal secretary to the premier will have to submit 10% of the Rs190.78 million.
