Ashiana Housing case: Court orders to send Shehbaz Sharif to prison
Lahore: The Accountability Court on Thursday ordered to send former Chief Minister of Punjab and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif to prison after remanding him to 14 days judicial custody in the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case.

Accountability Judge Najam-ul-Hassan presided the hearing against the former Punjab chief minister, who is accused of involvement in a multi-billion rupees housing scam.

Shehbaz, who has been in National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) custody since October 5 in connection to the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case, was presented before an accountability court in Lahore as his physical remand ended today.

As the hearing went under way, NAB sought an extension in Shehbaz's remand. However, the NAB prosecutor failed to provide satisfactory answers after which the court rejected the accountability watchdog's request for a further extension in Shehbaz's remand and ordered that he be sent to jail.

Earlier, a large number of PML-N workers had gathered outside the court premises and tried to remove the barriers at which the police baton charged.
