One killed, multiple injured in Karachi's dust storm
Karachi: A dust storm accompanied by strong winds swept across Karachi on Sunday night, causing multiple casualties.

At least three people were killed and 86 others reported to be severely injured as an intense dust storm hit the metropolis, dispersing sand around the city, downing trees and blowing away roofs in some areas.

Many areas, including North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Sarjani Town, and Nusrat Bhutto Colony, plunged into darkness as K-Electric’s high-tension power transmission line tripped, suspending electricity supply to the linked grid stations.

Shah Faisal Colony, Azizabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and other areas also faced power blackout after the strong winds began sweeping across the city.

Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rains along with dust and thunderstorm in the city for Monday (today).

The dust storm hit Saddar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Hassan Square, SITE Area, Gulistan-e-Johar, Malir, Landhi, Airport, Shahrae Faisal, Abul Hassan Isphani Road, NIPA, Liaquatabad, Jail Road, Tariq Road, Guru Mandir and other areas of the city on Sunday night.

The flights were also delayed as a dust storm reduced visibility.

The weather system is likely to intensify and grip most parts of the province. While Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rains along with dust and thunderstorm in Karachi on Monday and Tuesday. The rain is expected to provide slight relief from the scorching heat.
