1st qualifier: Watson steers Gladiators to third PSL final
With this victory, Gladiators have qualified for the final.
Chasing a target of 187, Zalmi were struggling with required run rate soaring to 17. But then Sammy arrived and he along with Pollard nearly pulled off a sensational chase.
In the end, Watson successfully defended 21 runs as Zalmi succumbed on 176.
Earlier, Shane Watson lifted Quetta Gladiators to 186 runs against Peshawar Zalmi in the first qualifier of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2019 here at National Stadium, Karachi.
Being sent in to bat first, Gladiators lost inform Ahmed Shehzad to TS Mills in the second over. In the onset, Shane Watson adopted cautious approach but unleashed fierce hitting in the fifth over.
Watson picked 19 runs in Dawson’s over and then never looked back. The veteran cricketer smashed 72 runs on 43 balls. His innings included 5 boundaries and six maximums. He fell prey to Wahab Riaz.
Run rate plummeted in the middle overs as Zalmi’s bowlers continued to pick wickets in regular intervals.
A brief stint from Umar Akmal lifted Gladiators to 186 in the allotted 20 overs. Wahab Riaz picked two wickets. Hassan Ali, Sameen Gul and Mills claimed one wicket apiece.
