California: You must have heard about the newly updated version of WhatsApp, a global messaging service.

The update is actually an old hoax called “WhatsApp Gold” has made a comeback on the messaging platform which states that users are getting messages to  download Whats App Gold or WhatsApp Plus.

The WhatsApp Gold update apparently gives users the ability to hold video chats, send 100 pictures at once, and delete messages hours after they have sent them.

The Whats App users are given a link through which they can download the “update” – but it takes them to a website riddled with malware.

There are a huge number of other fake updates and duplicate apps available on Google Play but these applications covertly download malwares into your smartphones which caused potential harm to your personal data.

You are likely to get a new message saying that if you download WhatsApp Gold or WhatsApp Plus, you will get access to some hidden premium features of the Facebook-owned app. However, it’s a hoax and comes with some dangerous viruses. The message comes in the form of a video message.

Malware, or malicious software, is a virus that can be used to breaking into your phone and steal the messages and other private data of the users.

Users are likely to get a new message saying that if you download WhatsApp Gold or WhatsApp Plus, you will get access to some hidden premium features of the Facebook-owned app.

It starts out with warning about a video called martinelli, which it claims will come out tomorrow and hack their phone.

It says: “If you know anyone using WhatsApp you might pass on this. An IT colleague has advised that a video comes out tomorrow from WhatsApp called martinelli do not open it, it hacks your phone and nothing will fix it. Spread the word.”

The WhatsApp Gold hoax first circulated in 2016 and has emerged again.
