China approves local 5G deployment despite trade stand-off with US
Beijing: China has given approval to it’s state owned mobile network carriers for rolling out 5G networks despite trade tensions with the United States of America.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Thursday issued licenses to China Unicorn, China Telecom, China Mobile and China Radio and Television. Industry experts view the move as retaliation to the trade sanctions placed on the country by the Trump Administration.

The 5G network, known as next generation technology, is seen as critical to future tech including new devices and driverless cars.

According to the trade body GSMA, 5G roll outs will begin worldwide in 2020 with China accounting for the major chunk of 5G connections by 2025.

GSMA expects China to reach 460 million 5G connections by the end of that year.

Currently, U.S. carrier Verizo, some networks in the United Kingdom and South Korea have rolled out 5G in limited number of cities.
