Mexican triplets test positive for Covid-19 on day of birth
In what is being termed as an rare case, newborn triplets in Mexico have tested positive for novel coronavirus on the day they were born.

Following the youngest infections in the country, medical experts are investigating whether the newborns were infected before or after birth.

A health official in state San Luis Potosi said that it appeared unlikely they could have contracted virus outside the womb so quickly.

Two of the babies, one boy and one girl, are in a stable condition in a hospital in the state while the second boy is being treated for a respiratory condition.

A spokesperson for the state's Health Safety Committee said contagion in multiple births had not been detected anywhere globally and so the case would be investigated.

The parents of the newborns are being tested for the virus with authorities saying they may have been asymptomatic.

Mexico has recorded over 185,000 COVID-19 cases and 22,584 deaths since the first case of the country surfaced on 28 February.
