Peshawar: Senior Judge Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim was appointed Acting Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC), while President Asif Ali Zardari also appointed six additional judges in Sindh High Court (SHC), the notification of which was issued.

According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Law, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim has been appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of PHC under Article 196 of the Constitution.

The notification stated that Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim will be appointed as the permanent Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court after the approval of the Parliamentary Committee.

It is pertinent to note that after serving in the judiciary for 30 years, Chief Justice PHC Muhammad Ibrahim Khan is retiring from his post on April 14. He had very politely expressed his doubts about not being considered.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) of the Supreme Court Qazi Faez Isa, on April 3, he complained that the posts of four judges were vacant in the Supreme Court, but he ignored Pakhtunkhwa and appointed only one judge in the Supreme Court and that too from his province. As a member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan and the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC),  he hoped that his name would be considered as a Supreme Court judge, but it was not done.

On the other hand, President Asif Ali also appointed six additional judges in the Sindh High Court.

The newly appointed judges include Justice Sana Akram Minhas, Justice Amjad Ali Bohaiu, Justice Jawad Akbar Sarwana, Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro. Besides Justice Muhammad Abdul Rahman and Justice Arbab Ali Hakro have also been appointed.

The Ministry of Law has also issued a notification for the appointment of Additional Judges in the Sindh High Court.
