Nine get death penalty in Naogaon triple murder case
The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each.
A Naogaon court Monday has sentenced nine people to death and another to life in prison for the 2014 murders of three men in Naogaon’s Badalgachhi Upazila.
Judge Hasan Mahmudul Islam of Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court handed down the punishment at 12:00pm.
The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each.
The court, however, acquitted 10 others as the prosecution failed to prove the charges against them.
The deaths row convicts are: Md Saidul Islam, Aizul Haque, Jalal Hossain, Helal Hossain, Belal Hossain, Md Zayed, Abul Hossain, Md Mostafa, Md Sohag Ali and Md Hashem Ali.
According to the case statement, the convicts killed three people--Shahidul Islam, Amjad Hossain and Abdul Wadud-- over land dispute.
On June 6, 2014, Hashem, Saidul and Aijul attacked Shahidul Islam’s home. Shahidul was killed on the spot and two of his brothers later succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
Shahidul’s son, Farhad Hossain, filed a case at Badalgachhi Police Station over the incident. The case verdict was finally announced on Monday.
