National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) Tuesday has approved an increase of Rs0.89 per unit in monthly fuel adjustment charges in electricity prices.

According to a notification issued by NEPRA, fuel price adjustment will not be applicable to the K-Electric consumers. Whereas the hike of Rs0.89 per unit is allowed for the monthly fuel adjustment charges in January electricity prices and will be applicable only in the bills for March.

After the hike, consumers will face an additional burden of Rs6.90 billion.

The increase would be applicable to all Distribution companies’ customers except K-Electric.

It may be recalled that in the hearing held on February 25, NEPRA officials had said that running power plants outside the merit order had imposed an additional burden of Rs3.90 billion on consumers.

The reason for the increase in the cost of power generation was the unavailability of gas.
