Kallar Kahar: Bus crash turns wedding into tragedy; kills 14, injures 70
Officials expressed the fear that the death toll could rise.
Chakwal: In an unfortunate incident, at least 14 people have been killed while 70 others sustained injuries after a bus overturned due to a tyre burst near Kallar Kahar in Chakwal, GNN reported Monday.
According to the details, the bus was en route to Lahore from Islamabad, carrying passengers for a wedding ceremony.
Police and rescue teams reached the spot after getting information and shifted the deceased and the injured to a nearby hospital. Women and children were among the dead and the injured.
The ill-fated bus went out of control due to brake failure, broke the road divider and collided with three vehicles on the other side of the road before turning turtle, said rescue officials.
The motorway police evacuated the people trapped inside the bus and a rescue operation is going on at the accident site.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the accident and condoled with the bereaved families of the deceased.
In his condolence statement, he said that he is deeply saddened by the accident.
The Prime Minister directed to provide best medical facilities to the injured. He prayed for patience for the families and speedy recovery of the injured.
