Pakistan expresses concern over the Afghan border situation

Islamabad: Pakistan raises serious concerns over the Afghan government's recent attempts to establish checkpoints along the Pak-Afghan border, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining its territory.
Asif Durrani, Pakistan's Special Representative for Afghanistan Affairs, held discussions with Afghan officials to address the mounting tensions caused by the establishment of these checkpoints.
Pakistan has unequivocally stated that the purpose behind these checkpoints is an attempt to encroach upon Pakistani territory, which is unacceptable under any circumstances.
In the aftermath of recent border incidents, Afghan forces halted the construction of these checkpoints, but concerns remain.
Additionally, Afghan territory has been reportedly used in recent terrorist attacks in the Chitral region.
Afghanistan's Special Representative for Affairs, Sardar Ahmad Shakeeb, expressed urgency in reopening the border, highlighting the distress caused by the continuous closure of the Torkham border for traders and ordinary citizens.
Furthermore, Afghan authorities have indicated their readiness to address security concerns around the border, and both sides emphasized the need for coordinated security efforts.
Earlier, the Foreign Office spokesperson had expressed concern over the presence of new weaponry in Afghanistan, citing it as a source of worry.
Pakistan has informed all friendly countries, including the United States, of its concerns regarding security threats.
