Presidential elections in Iran are being held due to the sudden death of President Ibrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash
Tehran: In a high-level meeting presided over by Iran's Interim President Mohammad Mokhbar, the Speaker of the Parliament and the heads of the Judiciary decided to hold presidential elections in Iran on June 28.
According to Iranian media, according to the decision made in the high-level meeting, the registration of presidential candidates will be from May 30 to June 3, while the presidential election campaign will be conducted from June 12 to 27.
Presidential elections in Iran are being held due to the sudden death of President Ibrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.
According to the Iranian media, the authorities have started an investigation into the helicopter accident. The Chief of Staff of the Iranian Army, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, has formed an investigative committee which was established under the chairmanship of Brigadier Ali Abdullahi.
According to Iranian media, the members of the committee arrived at the accident site and started an investigation to find out the reasons for the destruction of President Ibrahim Raisi's helicopter.
The helicopter of the President of Iran crashed on Sunday afternoon. Iranian media claimed that the accident was caused by a technical fault, however, the fault was not clear.
Iran's former foreign minister, Javad Zarif, says that the helicopter crashed because of US sanctions because the aviation industry has been banned by the US from selling things to Iran.
The head of Iran's Disaster Management Organization, Mohammad Hassan Nami, says that despite the fire caused by the helicopter crash, the bodies of President Ibrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and all other persons are identifiable and therefore there is no need for DNA tests.
He said that the body of Ayatollah Muhammad Ali Al-Hashim was found in the best condition.
He was alive till an hour after the helicopter crash and he had spoken to the head of the presidential office, Ghulam Hussain Ismaili.
Pir Hossein, head of Iran's Red Crescent Society, has denied that Iran relied on foreign aid to find the helicopter wreckage.
In an interview, Pir Hussain stated that all search and rescue operations were carried out with the help of Iranian authorities and drones. The wreckage of the helicopter was found at five o'clock on Monday morning.
