Punjab, Sindh police to launch coordinated crackdown against Kacha region bandits
Police chiefs of both provinces speak on matter and decide to carry out intelligence-based operation to target criminals
Karachi: Punjab Inspector General (IG) of Police Usman Anwar reached out to Sindh IG Ghulam Nabi Memon to launch a coordinated crackdown against bandits in the Kacha region. Both provinces have decided to carry out an intelligence-based operation to target these criminals.
Speaking on the matter, Sindh IG Ghulam Nabi Memon stated that intelligence sharing between the Punjab and Sindh police is ongoing. "Whenever Punjab police require assistance in Sindh, we are there to support them," he said.
He added that in the past, joint operations have been conducted in the border areas of Sindh and Punjab to crack down on bandits, and this collaboration continues.
IG Memon explained that he and Punjab IG Usman Anwar agreed that a concerted crackdown will be carried out by police forces in the border areas of Ghotki and Kashmore in Sindh, and Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan in Punjab.
Describing the challenges, IG Memon noted that defining the borders in the Kacha region is a complex task. "Back in 1997, during my tenure, bandits in the Kacha area would exploit the border, moving between Sindh and Punjab to evade police action. If Sindh police acted, the criminals would find refuge in Punjab, and vice versa. But the situation is different now," he explained.
He emphasized that both provincial police forces are now fully aligned in their strategy to take down active gangs that have been targeting law enforcement. This coordinated effort is expected to deliver effective results soon.
IG Memon also pointed out that the Kacha region is currently experiencing moderate flooding due to the rainy season. Therefore, the police have opted for an intelligence-based operation to ensure successful action with minimal risk.
