Punjab extends Section 144 across province

Lahore: The Punjab government extended the implementation of Section 144 across the province until November 28 in view of security threats.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, a ban has been imposed on all types of protests, gatherings, processions, rallies, sit-ins, and all such activities in the province for three days.

According to the notification, the implementation of Section 144 has been extended from Tuesday, November 26 to Thursday, November 28. The extension was decided to maintain law and order and protect human lives and property.

The notification states that in view of security threats, any public procession can be a soft target for terrorists. Section 144 has been imposed in Punjab for the last three days on the recommendation of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order.

Earlier, Section 144 was also imposed in the federal capital Islamabad on November 18, under which any kind of religious and political gathering was banned.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) main convoy, led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Bushra Bibi, is moving towards Islamabad to secure the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and other demands. It has reached No. 26 Chungi in Islamabad, while the police fired heavily to disperse the protesters.
