Greece boat accident: No hopes for survival of several missing Pakistanis

 

 

Athens: Pakistani Ambassador to Greece Amir Aftab Qureshi said that dozens of Pakistanis who drowned in the Greek boat accident are still missing and their hopes of survival are gone.

While holding a press conference in Greece, Pakistani Ambassador Amir Aftab Qureshi stated that four Pakistanis have been confirmed dead in the boat accident. There were more than 80 Pakistanis on board the boat. They sank thousands of feet deep in the sea at an unknown location. Rescue operations are underway at the accident site, but there is little hope of survival for the missing people.

He added that Pakistanis were on board five boats that illegally left Libya.

Amir Aftab Qureshi further said that the boat first cracked and then sank. The bodies will be sent to Pakistan at government expense.

According to Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, according to the Greek authorities, four Pakistanis have died in the boat capsizing incident in Greece. Our mission is in touch with the Greek authorities who are providing facilities to the survivors. Our mission is also taking steps to bring back the bodies.

On the other hand, 46 Pakistanis who survived the boat accident have been transferred to the Mala Casa camp in Greece. The surviving Pakistanis have filed asylum applications.
