“We have already won”; Gillani claims victory in senate polls
Islamabad: Joint Candidate of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) from Islamabad seat in Senate elections Yousuf Raza Gillani has claimed victory in senate saying they have already won the elections.
According to details, former prime minister arrived in Parliament to cast his vote. While speaking to media informally, he said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Hafeez Sheikh would not get enough votes [to secure win].
“We have already fulfilled the purpose for which we are here,” he stated.
On the other hand, Gillani also met Sheikh in parliament where both shook hands and greeted each other.
Gillani has entered parliament the first time since his disqualification.
A tough encounter is expected in National Assembly for the Islamabad seat where joint candidate of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Yusuf Raza Gilani are contesting against ruling party candidate Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh.
The current strength of lower house is 341 and PTI’s candidate apparently enjoys the support of 180 MNAs.
It is pertinent to mention here that polling for 37 seats of the Senate is underway under the supervision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Islamabad.
