IHC turns down PTI's plea against Gillani’s victory in Senate polls
Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday has rejected the plea of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) against the victory of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Yousaf Raza Gillani in Senate elections.
According to details, a hearing over was conducted in IHC by Chief Justice Athar Minallah over the matter of Gillani’s victory in senate polls, who was also the joint candidate of opposition’s alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
During the hearing, CJ IHC directed PTI’s petitioner Ali Nawaz to use the platform of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) citing that case is already under-hearing there.
It’s not appropriate to unnecessarily drag the judiciary in political matters, court remarked while dismissing the plea.
Earlier yesterday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected PTI’s petition seeking a stay on the victory notification of former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani in senate polls.
Last week, a video of Ali Haider Gillani went viral in which he was seen advising legislators on how to waste his vote in the Senate polls.
The development came just a day before Yousaf Raza Gillani was elected as a senator defeating PTI’s Hafeez Sheikh by five votes.
The victory of opposition came as major blow for PTI, after which Prime Minister Imran Khan decided to take a vote of confidence from Parliament.
