In an attempt to address concerns and rumours on its impending privacy police, The Facebook-owned messaging service has launched its own Status feature.

WhatsApp will also use feature to share information with its users related to changes in the app and upcoming features. The Status update is viewable by all users.

“WhatsApp is now on Status!” WhatsApp said. “We’ll let you about new features and updates here.”

Soon after, WhatsApp started trending on Twitter with people reacting to the news with memes and jokes:

Earlier on January 04, WhatsApp announced that it will be updating its privacy policy, saying it reserved the right to share some user data across its other units such as Messenger and Instagram.

The move drew widespread criticism from users who feared that their privacy would be compromised.

Later, WhatsApp clarified on its new privacy policy saying the update does not affect privacy of messages with friends or family, and also listed information "not shared with Facebook".
