Covid third wave: Section 144 imposed in Peshawar for 30 days

Peshawar: In view of increasing Covid-19 cases, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has imposed section 144 in Peshawar for one month and banned all indoor and outdoor gatherings.

A notification in this regard has also been issued by the Home and Tribal Affairs Department saying gathering of five or more people has been banned across the province.

The local health department has ordered to strictly follow coronavirus precautionary measures designated to control the spread of pandemic.

On the other hand, highest positivity rate was recorded in Swat (23%) followed by Peshawar (22%), Nowshera (19%), Lahore (17%) and Islamabad (16%).

Moreover, all educational and extra-curricular activities have been cancelled till April 11 across the province.

As per the map of hotspots, which will be issued by the NCOC later, expanded lockdowns will be imposed from March 29.

The government has made it compulsory for people to wear masks at all times in public.

The district authorities have also started cracking down on hotels, restaurants, and markets violating coronavirus Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Today Pakistan has reported 4,084 new Covid-19 cases and 100 deaths, the highest single-day fatality count since July, with authorities linking the uptick in numbers to the third wave of the deadly outbreak across the country.

The total number of confirmed cases reached to 663,200. As many as 600,278 patients have recovered from the disease with 3,170 critical cases.
