In a letter written by Khusro Bakhtiar on April 16, he thanked the Prime Minister for appointing him as the Minister of Industry and Production.

"I am fully aware of the 'serious responsibility’ I have been given and I have taken this step to ensure honesty in my work," he said.

"Given the importance of sugar as a commodity in Pakistan and light of the recent public concerns in respect of the same, the functions of SAB mustn't be perceived as serving any interests besides those of the people of Pakistan," he penned.

"Because of any potential conflict of interest and to keep the Sugar Advisory Board free to operate beyond public grievances, I urge the federal government to transfer the Sugar Advisory Board to any other ministry.”

Khusro Bakhtiar concluded that the issue of the Sugar Advisory Report is very important for his reputation and independent performance of the board.

Earlier, Prime Minister House on April 19 confirmed that it had received the minister’s letter on the same matter.

"The prime minister has seen and while agreeing to the request of the minister for industries and production, in principle, has been pleased to desire that Industries and Production Division shall, in consultation with the stakeholders concerned move a summary for transfer of the Sugar Advisory Board to the appropriate ministry/division, at the earliest," it read.
