The reigning “Mrs World”, Caroline Jurie, has returned her crown weeks after an on-stage brawl in which she pulled the crown off the head of the winner of the Mrs Sri Lanka beauty pageant.

According to the Internation news agency, the organiser of Mrs World completion said that the decision to resign voluntarily was entirely a personal decision of Caroline Jurie.

Kate Schneider of Ireland will now be the new Miss World 2020, the runner-up to the 2020 competition, the organization that organizes the Miss World pageant stated.

Pushpika de Silva, who she claimed was unqualified to take part in the April 4 contest because she was divorced.

De Silva said she is separated but not divorced, from her husband, though court proceedings are continuing.

“Being apart is one. Divorce is something else,” she posted on Facebook.

After the controversy, the organizers of the beauty pageant confirmed that Pushpika de Silva was not divorced, after which the award was returned to her.

In a brawl on stage at the beauty pageant, Pushpica de Silva claimed a head injury and called for legal action, after which Caroline Jury was arrested.

A few days later, Colombo police also arrested Caroline Jurie on a complaint by Pushpika de Silva, who was later released on bail.

It may be recalled that the Miss Sri Lanka pageant is one of the biggest beauty pageants in the Asian country, which was also attended by the Sri Lankan Prime Minister as a guest.

The winner of Mrs Sri Lanka 2021 will now be part of the Mrs World pageant.

Caroline Juri was named as Mrs Sri Lanka in 2019 and she won the Mrs World crown in 2020 in Las Vegas.

Earlier on April 8 2021, Former Mrs Sri Lankan and current Mrs World Caroline Jury and her partner were arrested on Thursday for assaulting and damaging the theatre.

BACKGROUND

It may be recalled that Pushpika de Silva was declared the winner of Mrs Sri Lanka 2021 in the final ceremony in a theatre in Colombo on Sunday, while Caroline Jury was awarded the same honour in 2019.

The Caroline jury was named "Mrs World" in 2020.

Mrs Sri Lanka's final ceremony was also broadcasted on a state TV channel on Sunday in which Pushpika de Silva was declared the winner of the year 2020 and as soon as she was crowned, former Mrs Sri Lankan Caroline Jury snatched her award.

Pushpika de Silva also suffered head injuries during the incident, after which she was taken to the hospital.

Speaking to reporters outside a police station in Colombo, Pushpika de Silva said she would withdraw the case if the Caroline jury apologized in public, but the former titleholder refused to apologize.

De Silva also said, "I tried to resolve the matter out of court, but the Caroline jury refused."

"I can forgive, but I can't forget," de Silva added.

According to the report, Caroline Jury had claimed that de Silva was not entitled to the title of Mrs Sri Lanka as she was divorced. To compete in the Sri Lankan contest, de Silva must be married and separated from her husband, although she is legally married.

Caroline Jury has been asked by event organizers to overhaul the damage is done to the stage likewise several windows in the backstage dressing room was also damaged during the scuffle.

Following the incident, social media users are demanding to withdraw the Mrs World award from the Caroline jury.

According to the latest report, Reigning Mrs World Caroline Jurie was released on police bail after being arrested by the Police this afternoon over the brawl at the Mrs Sri Lanka pageant on Sunday.

However, Caroline Jurie and Chula Padmendra were arrested by the Cinnamon Gardens Police and after recording their statements were released on bail, Police Spokesman said.
