Malaysia announces travel ban for Pakistan, Bangladesh
Malaysia has banned all passenger flights from Pakistan and other countries in view of rising number of Covid-19 infections.
According to details, Malaysia has announced a travel ban on Pakistan Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal and as per notification issued by the Malaysian immigration authorities citizens of these countries will not be allowed to enter Malaysia from May 08.
"The travel restriction imposed on citizens of these countries involved all categories holding long-term social visit passes, business travelers and for social visits," said Senior Malaysia Minister Ismail Yakoob.
Those holding diplomatic and official passports are exempted from the restrictions; however, people falling under this category will have to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Post announcement of travel ban, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight has been stopped from flying to Malaysia.
Last month, Malaysia had banned travel from India as well, as the country battles against deadly Covid-19 wave.
According to Johns Hopkins University data, the current reported estimates showed more than 155 million cases worldwide with at least 3.25 million casualties.
