SC takes notice of development funds for lawmakers
Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has taken notice of the government’s move to give funds to members of national and provincial assemblies to carry out development projects in their constituencies.
According to details, a two-member bench of top court, headed by Justice Qazi Faez Isa issued notices to Attorney General (AG) and the Advocate Generals of all four provinces to submit their responses in this regard.
During proceedings, Justice Isa asked if giving funds to lawmakers by prime minister in line with the constitution and law.
“We will dispose of the matter if the funds are being given as per constitution, law and court orders,” he said.
The Supreme Court also directed Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan to seek instructions from government and inform apex court in this regard.
SC warned of action if government’s move doesn’t is not in line with the constitution. The hearing was adjourned for a week.
Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced to give development funds of Rs. 500 million to all lawmakers.
