LHC dismisses petition to stop Aurat March

Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday dismissed the petition filed to stop the Aurat March as inadmissible.

According to the details, Justice Shahid Karim of LHC pronounced the decision on the petition filed by citizen Azam Butt.

Deputy Commissioner Lahore and others were made parties in the petition. It was stated that the placards and banners of the Aurat March are not acceptable to the Islamic society. It is feared that another women's march will create the same threat of disruption of peace as it has in the past.

The petitioner was of the opinion that if one is not getting the fundamental rights, he can approach the court.

In the petition, it was requested to order the state to stop the immoral publicity of the Aurat March.

In the hearing held on March 1, the Lahore High Court reserved its decision after hearing the preliminary arguments. Today, the court pronounced the reserved decision regarding the admissibility of the petition and dismissed it as inadmissible.

It is pertinent to note that Aurat March is being celebrated on Women's Day i.e. March 8 every year. Women all around the country get on the roads holding placards and banners highlighting their rights as integral part of the society.
