Over 3 billion COVID shots administered globally
Over 3 billion doses of anti-COVID shots have so far been administered worldwide, figures compiled by an international news agency showed on Tuesday.
While jabbing the people, China leads the global count with more than 1.21 billion shots, followed by India with 329.3 million.
The United States has administered 324.41 million shots, Brazil 96.91 million, the UK 77.4 million, Germany 72.81 million, France 52.47 million, and Italy 50.45 million.
Turkey ranks ninth on the list with over 48.74 million doses given, followed by Mexico, Japan, and Indonesia.
The country with the most doses administered by population is the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with 152.79 doses per 100 people.
Following the UAE, countries with the most doses administered per 100 people are Malta with 147.89 doses, the Seychelles 140.31, San Marino 130.92, Bahrain 123.99, Israel 123.96, Chile 117.67, the UK 113.48, Mongolia 113.47, Iceland 113.32, Uruguay 110.18, Qatar 106.74, and Hungary 101.86.
The number of doses administered in 13 countries, including the UAE exceeded their population.
Most COVID-19 vaccines are administered in two doses, so the number of shots given is not the same as the number of individuals fully vaccinated.
Till the time, COVID-19 has claimed over 3.93 million lives in 192 countries and regions, with more than 181.48 million cases reported worldwide while the US, India, and Brazil remain the worst-hit countries.
COVID-19 infections are decreasing in Pakistan, with 926 new infections reported on average each day. That’s 16% of the peak — the highest daily average reported on June 17.
There have been 955,657 infections and 22,231 coronavirus-related deaths reported in the country since the pandemic began.
Pakistan has administered 14,793,793 doses of COVID vaccines so far. While 11,978,339 people are partially vaccinated and 2,815,454 are fully jabbed against the virus.
Assuming every person needs 2 doses, that’s enough to have vaccinated about 3.2% of the country’s population.
During the last week reported, Pakistan averaged about 290,577 doses administered each day. At that rate, it will take a further 143 days to administer enough doses for another 10% of the population.
