Seniority should not be seen while appointing judges: Fawad Chaudhry
Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry has said that seniority should not be considered in the appointment of judges.
Addressing a function in Islamabad on Wednesday, Fawad Chaudhry said, "I have been surprised for a day or two that Pakistan Bar Council went on strike and said that we did not appoint a judge on seniority."
“What is seniority? the official must be able. If you are eligible, you should go up and if you are not, you should go down.”
"We have great lawyers in international law, but there are some problems with our system. The system has not moved as fast as the world has moved forward," he claimed.
The minister while criticizing the internal correspondence system of Pakistan said that "Our file work is that we are first asked to write a letter, then a reply will come and then you will reply with another letter. So I suggested using WhatsApp and write the letter later.'
The problem will exist unless the induction of technology is not accepted, he added.
It may be recalled that the Pakistan Bar Council had gone on a nationwide strike on Tuesday over the appointment of a judge from the Sindh High Court in the Supreme Court.
Earlier, the Supreme Court Bar Association in a statement had expressed reservations over the Sindh High Court's proposal to appoint a 'junior judge' to the Supreme Court.
