Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an increase of Rs. 1.95 per unit in power tariff, third energy price rise in three days.

According to details, the move will put an additional burden of Rs. 200 billion on consumers. The price increase will be applicable to all consumers including lifeline consumers using 50 units in a month.

Per unit average tariff has gone up to Rs. 16.33 from Rs. 16.33 following the hike.

It may be recalled that on February 11, electricity prices were increased by R. 0. 83 per unit in lieu of monthly fuel charges adjustment for December 2020.

On February 10, Nepra approved increase in electricity rates by Rs. 1.53 per unit on account of monthly fuel cost adjustment.

It may be recalled that on January 28, the Nepra had indicated an increase of Rs 3.5 per unit in the price of electricity.

Earlier on January 11, NEPRA had imposed an additional burden of Rs 8.40 billion on consumers and increased electricity rates by Rs 1.6 per unit.
