On his official twitter handle, quoting news from Times of India the Premier said that the registration of cases against the family of Syed Ali Shah Gilani is a shameful example of Indian fascism.

While paying tribute to Veteran Hurriyat leader, Khan referred him as "one of the most respected and principled Kashmiri leaders".

“Snatching the body of the 92 year old Syed Ali Geelani, one of the most respected & principled Kashmiri ldrs, & then registering cases against his family is just another shameful example of India’s descent into fascism under the Nazi-inspired RSS-BJP govt,” the Premier wrote.

As per reports, Police in India-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K) at the Budgam police station registered a case against the family of recently deceased veteran Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani for chanting pro-independence slogans.

Prior to burial rituals, the grieving family raised slogans in favour of independence and Pakistan as his body was taken away that was wrapped in the green and white flag of Pakistan.

They were reportedly tortured and locked in a room by Indian forces.
