Trump launches ‘TRUTH Social’ as rival to Facebook, Twitter
Former US President Donald Trump announced the launch of his own social media platform named ‘TRUTH Social’, according to a press release by Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG).
Washington: Former US President Donald Trump announced the launch of his own social media platform named ‘TRUTH Social’, according to a press release by Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG).
On Wednesday, Donald Trump announced that he will launch his own social media app and news company to compete with “big tech”.
The move comes nine months after he was banned from several social media platforms for his role in the January 6 US Capitol riots, which followed a speech in which he made baseless claims of electoral fraud.
Twitter and Facebook began deleting some of his posts or labelling them as misleading, such as one in which he said Covid was "less lethal" than the flu.
Since then Trump and his advisers have hinted that they were planning to create a rival social media site.
In 2021, former President launched ‘From the Desk of Donald J Trump’, which was often referred to as a blog.
Trump’s new social network is set to launch a beta version in November, which will be available to invited guests only.
Trump said that the company’s mission is to create ‘a rival to the liberal media consortium and fight back against the Big Tech companies’.
The national rollout is expected in the first quarter of 2022, the press release said.
“I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech. We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced,” Trump said in the statement.
