‘I was suicidal’; Meghan accuses British royal family of racism, lying and bullying
California: Meghan Markle, Hollywood’s A list actor and wife of Prince Harry has made shocking revelations in a recent interview to Oprah Winfrey.
While speaking, the 39-year old actress accused the British royal family of racism, lying and pushing her to the brink of suicide.
Meghan, whose mother is Black and father is white, said that her one-year old son Archie had been denied the title of prince because there were concerns within the royal family about how dark his skin might be.
"They didn't want him to be a prince. There were conversations about how dark his skin might be when he's born,” the actress said without naming who raised such concerns.
She said that she was unaware of the situation before she got married into the royal family and ended up having suicidal thoughts and considering self harm after begging for help but getting none.
"I just didn't want to be alive any more. And that was a very clear and real and frightening constant thought. And I remember how he (Harry) just cradled me," Meghan said, wiping away tears.
“I remember this conversation like it was yesterday, because they said, my heart goes out to you because I see how bad it is, but there’s nothing we can do to protect you because you’re not a paid employee of the institution. This wasn’t a choice. This was emails and begging for help, saying very specifically I am concerned for my mental welfare.”
Meghan further said that the royal family not just failed to protect her against malicious claims but lied to protect others.
"It was only once we were married and everything started to really worsen that I came to understand that not only was I not being protected but that they were willing to lie to protect other members of the family," Meghan said.
When Harry, who was also giving interview besides Meghan, was asked on whether he told his family about his plans to step away from royal roles replied,
“I had three conversations with my grandmother, and two conversations with my father before he stopped taking my calls. And then he said, can you put this all in writing? By that point I took matters into my own hands, it was like, I needed to do this for my family. This is not a surprise to anybody. It’s really sad that it’s got to this point, but I’ve got to do something for my own mental health, my wife’s and for Archie’s as well.”
Last year in January, Harry and Meghan announced to step down from their royal roles citing personal reasons.
