India Women team defeats Pakistan in opening World Cup game
Both teams were playing their first match in the event
Mount Maunganui: India have defeated Pakistan Team in a thrilling clash by 107 runs in ICC Women World Cup's in their opening match played at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.
Set a target of 245 runs to win, the whole Pakistani team was bundled out of 137 runs with seven overs to spare.
Earlier, India had won the toss and decided to bat first at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
Batting first after winning the toss, the Indian women were in deep trouble when their sixth wicket fell at 144 but their innings were steadied by Pooja Vastrakar (67) and Sneh Rana (53*) sharing a partnership of 122 runs for the seventh wicket. Smriti Mandhana also hit 52 runs.
The Indians were able to post a competitive total of 244 for seven wickets after opting to bat first against Pakistan.
For Pakistan, Nshra Sandhu took two wickets by giving away 36 runs in her 10 overs. Nidar Dar also grabbed two wickets by giving away 45 runs.
