Lahore: The annual Earth Hour will be observed in Pakistan tonight like elsewhere in the world, maintaining the global tradition of saving energy and acknowledging the climatic conditions all around the globe.
This year, the theme is "Shaping our Future".
In his message on the occasion, Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani urged the people to switch off all unnecessary lights and other electric appliances at their homes, offices, and shops from 8: 30 pm to 9: 30 pm.
“Climate change is impacting the lives and livelihoods of everyone around the world,” he said.
In Pakistan, the lights at the Parliament House and other landmarks will be switched off tonight to show the commitment of people towards this noble cause.
Started by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in 2007, the Earth Hour is observed on last Saturday of March every year. The purpose behind performance of this activity was to create awareness of sustaining the energy and understanding changing climatic conditions across the globe.
It is now one of the world’s largest grassroots movements for the environment which engages millions of people in more than 180 countries and territories.
All non-essential lights will be turned off around the world from 8:30pm to 9:30pm, descending the planet in darkness.
