Magnitude 6.0 quake jolts eastern Taiwan: USGS

Taipei: A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.0 struck Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 9:05am Monday, shaking most of the island, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

As per reports, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 37.7kilometers south-southwest of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 6.8 km. 

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The quake's intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was highest in Huailen County, where it measured 5-weak on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale.
