Supreme Court stays re-polling in Daska NA-75 on April 10

Islamabad: The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan on Friday has halted re-polling in NA-75 on April 10 and postponed the elections in Daska constituency.

Supreme Court halts re-polling in NA-75 on April 10

According to details, a three-judge bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial conducted the hearing and granted a stay order against the decision of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding re-polls in Punjab’s Daska on April 10.

The apex court further instructed ECP not to put the entire electoral process on hold and but just delay re-polling.

The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had challenged decision of top electoral body regarding re-polling in NA-75 in the top court. The petition was moved by PTI candidate from Daska Ali Asjad Malhi.

It is pertinent here to mention that on February 25 the Election Commission of Pakistan had ordered fresh polls for Daska NA-75 constituency on March 18 after nullifying the by-election.

Announcing the verdict, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja stated that the by-elections in the constituency were not conducted in a fair and transparent manner and law, while law and order situation was also disrupted.

On March 10, the Election Commission of Pakistan (changed the date of NA-75 Daska by-election to April 10.
