Sedition case: IHC grants bail to PTI leader Shahbaz Gill

Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court on Thursday granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Shahbaz Gill in the sedition case filed against him.

According to details, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah conducted a hearing on the bail plea.

The court ordered Shahbaz Gul to deposit surety bonds of five lakh rupees.

Gill had approached the IHC last Friday after his failure to get bail from a trial court despite continuous efforts.

Imran Khan’s chief of staff was arrested on August 9 over a case of incitement to rebellion registered against him in the Kohsar Police Station.

As per FIR, he made alleged controversial remarks about the army during a private news channel’s bulletin and has been detained since. 

On August 25, he applied for post-arrest bail.

The FIR was registered under sections 34 (common intention), 109 (abetment), 120 (concealing design to commit offense punishable with imprisonment), 121 (waging war against state), 124-A (sedition), 131 (abetting mutiny, or attempt to seduce a soldier, sailor or airman from his duty), 153 (provoking to cause riot), 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups),  505 (statement conducing to public mischief),  and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Besides other charges, clauses related to spreading anarchy and hatred were added to the FIR.
