‘National Resilience Day’; Nation marks 17th anniversary of 2005 deadly earthquake

Islamabad: National Resilience Day is being observed today (Saturday) across Pakistan to express solidarity with the victims of 2005 earthquake.
The 7.6 magnitude catastrophic earthquake claimed over 73,000 lives besides causing massive damage to infrastructure, especially in Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Different events are being organized in different parts of the country including Azad Jammu and Kashmir to express solidarity and sympathies with the victims of calamities
The Day is observed as a reminder that we live in a region marked as highly vulnerable to disasters.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan is the 7th most disaster-vulnerable country in the Climate Risk Index.
This year, Pakistan suffered from climate-induced disasters in the form of flash floods, following which at least 1,696 people died while over 12,000 sustained injuries. The floods affected nearly 33 million people.
