Rawalpindi: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief and former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed was arrested from his residence by Rawalpindi police on Thursday morning at 12:40am, GNN reported.
According to the details, after the arrest he was transferred to Abpara police station in Islamabad.
Later, Sheikh was shifted to Polyclinic Hospital for medical treatment.
Police officials claimed that Sheikh Rasheed was intoxicated and expensive brand liquor was recovered from Rasheed's possession.
The police stated that a case had been registered against Ahmed in Abpara police station.
According to the FIR, Rasheed had alleged that Asif Ali Zardari had hired terrorists to kill Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan. The aim of the claim was to defame Asif Zardari.

In a video message, Sheikh Rashid alleged that 100 to 200 people entered his house and they harassed his employees. He stated that police arrested him without warrant, adding that Rana Sanaullah is behind everything, but he is with Imran Khan and the truth would be victorious.
Turning to Twitter, his nephew Sheikh Rahid Shafique shared that Ahmed was arrested from his residence in a private housing society. He urged the PTI and AML leaders to come to F-8 court in the morning at 7:30.

AML chief would be taken to the magistrate court today.
In the early hours of Thursday, reacting to AML chief’s arrest, Imran Khan turned to Twitter and stated that strongly condemn arrest of Sheikh Rasheed.
“Never in our history have we had such a biased, vindictive caretaker government appointed by totally discredited ECP,” he added.
