Pakistan to have 10% less water for Kharif crop

The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has said that there will be a 10 per cent water shortage at the beginning of the Kharif season and a 4 per cent water shortage at the end of the season.

Pakistan to have 10% less water for Kharif crop

According to the IRSA statement issued Thursday, a meeting of the Advisory Committee chaired by IRSA Chairman Rao Irshad was informed that a total of 108.75 Million Acre Foot (MAF) of water would be available in the Kharif season while 14.47 MAF of water will go into the sea.

According to the announcement, 15.01 MAF of water will be absorbed by the land during the flow while 10.05 MAF of water will be saved for the start of next Rabi season.

68.67 MAF of water will be distributed among the provinces, out of which Punjab will get 34.112 MAF and Sindh 30.893 MAF.

Whereas, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will get 0.823 MAF and Balochistan will get 2.848 MAF.
