New York: Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Munir Akram on Saturday urged the international community, including the United Nations, to play its due role for the peaceful and early settlement of the Kashmir dispute to promote regional peace and stability.

Participating in Radio Pakistan's News and Current Affairs Channel's live program on Saturday, he said it is high time when the international community should exert pressure on India for stopping massive human rights violations in the held territory.

Munir Akram said the peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues, including the Kashmir dispute, is of particular importance in terms of ensuring peace and security in the South Asian region.

He said Islamabad is committed to continuing its all-out support to the people of occupied Jammu & Kashmir until they achieve their legitimate rights, freedom and liberty.

He said the struggle of the Kashmiri people for freedom and self-determination is legitimate under the United Nations Charter, Security Council resolutions and international laws.

The Ambassador said history tells us that struggles for freedom cannot be vanquished and the valiant Kashmiri people are bound to realize their cherished goal of freedom.  He stressed that there is a dire need that UN resolutions on Kashmir should be implemented in letter and spirit.

Munir Akram said India has been involved in committing massive human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir for over 70 years. This repression has intensified in the aftermath of the unilateral measures initiated by India since 5 August 2019.

The Ambassador expressed the confidence that Indian campaign of oppression cannot succeed in extinguishing the desire and demand of the Kashmiri people for freedom and self-determination. Their freedom struggle continues and will continue in the future as well.
