First successful non-surgical open heart operation in KPK
A milestone accomplished by surgeons in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Hospital.
Peshawar: In a landmark achievement, doctors at the Peshawar Institute of Cardiology, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have successfully conducted the first open heart operation without surgery.
This groundbreaking procedure allowed doctors to operate on both adults and children without the need for traditional chest incisions.
As reported by GNN, the operation was performed on a 17-year-old patient whose heart valves were not pumping blood to the lungs effectively.
Medical team was able to replace the faulty valve without resorting to invasive surgery, bringing hope to heart patients across the province.
The collaborative effort involved doctors from the UAE, UK, and Peshawar, bringing together expertise. Prior to this, similar procedures were only performed in a collective total of three cases in India and Pakistan.
